Retro-Futuristic Book Club
Monday, April 28, 7-8:30pm
This Book Club is for teens and adults who are interested in the retro-futuristic genre, a sci-fi genre that looks at the future but from the eyes of the past, like how Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs, H.G. Wells, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, & Mary Shelley did in their time. Sub-genres (time-periods) include: Rococo-Punk (Napoleonic/Georgian), Steampunk (Victorian), Weird West (American Civil War & Rebuilding), Dieselpunk (Inter-Bellum).
This month's Steampunk Book Club will discuss The Aeronaut's Windlass by Jim Butcher, the first book in The Cinder Spires series. Immerse yourself in a fantastic world of noble families, steam-powered technology, and magic-wielding warriors. Visit the library to pick up a copy of the book or a CD version of the audiobook. This book is also available to borrow through the Libby App as an e-book or audiobook. Led by Rev. Geoffrey Smith, this book club offers both in-person and Zoom options, so you can join us at the Petersham Congregational Church or from the comfort of your home. Whether you're a long-time steampunk enthusiast or new to the genre, all are welcome!
